Fujitsu is committed to helping businesses achieve their Net Positive status - contributing more to society and the environment than they consume. To support this commitment, our goal is to provide customers with a clear roadmap to Net Positive through digital services. Through our Fujitsu Uvance business, we supported the development of the Net Positive Assessment Tool, a first-of-its-kind tool that empowers businesses to measure and advance their progress towards Net Positive impact.

number 1

Adopting a Net Positive approach can help companies reach their sustainability goals and build investor confidence without compromising on financial performance.

Most companies who have taken steps to be more Net Positive are on track when it comes to revenue and profit goals, while also being slightly ahead when it comes to investor confidence and ESG targets (over the past 12 months).

number 2

Very few companies are truly Net Positive. The average score on the Net Positive Index is just 55/100 and no industry scores above 57. Globally, we have a long way to go.

number 3

Companies are focused on reducing harm through minimising their footprint rather than embracing a “Net Positive mentality” focused on increasing their handprint.

Has your organisation established short-term (over the next 5-10 years) commitments or targets in the following areas?

number 4

This lack of mentality shift reinforces the perception that there are tensions between “sustainability” goals and financial ones.

Just 4% of businesses weight financial, environmental and social performance equally, but the Net Positive Index indicates that companies can prioritise all of these and still be competitive.

number 5

When companies are making progress towards Net Positive, environmental issues are often the focus. Social issues, including human rights protections and labour practices, are being neglected.

number 6

Across regions and industries, companies consistently struggle to embrace Net Positive in their value chains.

There is indication that the Retail industry has started to undertake changes that protect workers across their value chains.

number 7

Actions like the ones that Retail have taken on labour protections mean that consumer-driven industries are outpacing their B2B peers on Net Positive

The retail industry performs the best overall on the index and leads in 3 of the 4 domains (assess, commit, and implement), but the gap across industries is small and no industry is a “Net Positive Pioneer”.

number 8

Companies in all industries face persistent barriers in achieving their social and environmental sustainability goals,

but they do anticipate tangible business benefits from Net Positive behaviour.

What are the main barriers your organisation faces to achieving social and environmental sustainability goals?

number 9

Data collection can be key to achieving Net Positive.

Companies in the best performing industry (Retail) and region (Europe) in the Net Positive Index are the most likely to report that data collection has significantly helped reduce their negative social or environmental impacts.

To what extent has data collection helped your organisation reduce its negative social or environmental impacts?

number 10

Across industries, companies that are deploying technology and other tools to support their sustainability efforts are more likely to be tracking ahead on revenue and profit goals.

However, companies across the board are not yet managing the safe and responsible adoption of these tech solutions.
